Well, few things in the gear head world are universally agreed upon, but the bumpers on the 1974 to 1976 BMW 2002 are unanimously considered hideous. They ruined a great car with great lines by affixing “diving boards” to the front and rear. Euro cars were not afflicted with this disease, and the sought after setup is to get Euro bumpers. They in turn are hideously expensive and involve some body work to be done well (IMHO). On my Blau car, the stock bumpers were simply shortened to hug the body, and many have done the same. The result is orders of magnitude better than stock. With the budget and look of this car, it seemed like a good idea. The rear was surprisingly easy to cut and then drill new holes for mounting. The front was more of a task to get the measurements right, and there will be no bumper there anyway. Just the shocks as mounting point for some fog lights. With bumpers, it now also looks less attractive to the local constabulary as the concentric circles of testing continue..
