So there I was, longing for the old days when changing a tire was as simple as slipping out the axle and removing the wheel. The RT is a streamlined beauty, with a single-sided swing arm. Looking at it, it is easy to believe that all you have to do to remove the wheel Is to loosen the 5 lug bolts. And you would be correct. However removing the disconnected wheel from the back of the bike is another matter entirely. This involves removing the luggage on that side, removing a heat shield from the muffler, loosening the exhaust clamp and footpeg mount, and finally taking off the entire slip on muffler. Only after all of this, can you extract the already loosened wheel from the bike. The array of tools and the time taken make me glad that this time, I was not on the side of the road…. At night…in the rain.
