Back in September of 1929, Ernst Jakob Henne set a new motorcycle record by riding his super-charged 750cc BMW R37 to a speed of 134.65 mph (216.75 km/h). The supercharged engine was producing approximately 100+hp, a  number which exceeded almost all cars at the time, much less motorcycles. He then went on to set 76 additional world records with variants of this bike between 1929 and 1935, eclipsing his own record with with a run of 159 mph (256 km/h) in 1935. And his final record of 173.3 mph (279 km/h) was set on November 28th 1937. It stood until 1951.
